7,000 m² indoor space
Transformation of a textile factory into a museum
The Abdullah Gul Museum and Library project is a restoration project on a total indoor area of 7,000 m² and contains 3 blocks. Alongside of objects and artefacts belonging to the President Mr Abdullah Gul, the thematic Museum 11 also displays artefacts from the more recent political past.
The Sumerbank Textile factory located in the Kocasinan district of Kayseri was designed in 1933 by Russian architects. It closed in 1999, after which it was handed over to the Abdullah Gul University for use on their campus site.
The Museum and Library project involves the preservation of the old factory’s original electricity power house, steam power house and training buildings which are under protection as historical buildings, and the restoration work required to transform these buildings into a museum and library.
