Ilgaz Tunnel which connects central Anatolia to the west of the Blacksea region, passes through the 1,875 m high Ilgaz Mountain. With a length of 4,792 m double tube tunnel, it is one of the longest tunnels in Turkey. It's a double tube highway tunnel (2x2) constructed by New Austrian Tunneling Method (NATM).
Cross sectional area of the tunnel is 67 m². Maximum and minimum excavation areas are 116 m² and 93 m² respectively.
The aim of the project is to provide safer and faster transport in an area whose geographical conditions give rise to many traffic accidents.
