Bridges, viaducts and transport systems
Distribution systems
One of the objectives of the National Earthquake Strategy and Action Plan (UDSEP-2023) is to ensure “Safe and Earthquake Resistant Developments“.
For “bridges, viaducts and transport systems” but also for the vital underground and at-grade distribution systems (petrol and natural as pipelines, electrical and communication transmission lines etc), “Action Plan B.1.6” foresees that based on the construction technology and practices in Turkey, methods are developed, standardized and implemented for determining seismic safety and strengthening structures and facilities.
The preparation of up-to-date earthquake specifications for transport and distribution structures and facilities started in 2017. A work team of expert academicians was formed and the work commenced.
Upon completion of the study in 2019 a workshop was held on the Preparation of Earthquake Regulations for Transport and Distribution Facilities, at which the expert academicians shared their views on the studies and draft regulation with the participants and responded to their questions.
The Regulations which will come into effect in one year’s time, were published in the Official Gazette in October 2020.
