Hospital with 1000 beds
250.000 m² indoor space
FIDIC Red Book
Seismic isolator system
Within the scope of the ‘Istanbul Seismic Risk Mitigation and Emergency Case Preparations’ (İSMEP) the project consists of the demolition of the existing hospital and the construction of a new hospital.
The new Okmeydanı Training and Research Hospital was designed as the first hospital that is a candidate for the Leed Gold (Green Building) Certificate. The design uses a seismic isolation technique and smart building technology so that even after an earthquake the building can continue its function without disruption.
The hospital will be equipped with energy saving systems, and with its trigeneration centre it will be able to produce an important part of it’s electricity demand from natural gas. The released heat energy will be used in the heating and cooling of the hospital.
The existing Okmeydanı Training and Research Hospital has an indoor space area of 55,000 m², the total construction area of the new hospital will be 257,000 m².
The Okmeydanı Training and Research Centre is named after Prof. Dr. Cemil Tascioğlu who during his devoted service lost his life in 2020 due to the coronavirus.
