Kolkata, popularly known as the “City of Joy” as well as the Cultural Capital of the Country is the capital city of West Bengal, and is located in eastern India in the Ganges Delta. It is spread linearly along the banks of the River Hooghly in a north-south direction. Much of the City was originally a vast wetland, reclaimed over the decades to accommodate the city's burgeoning population.
Metro of Kolkata is the first underground metro in India. It extends from Dakshineswar to Kavi Subhash Metro station near Garia, on the busy North-South axis of Kolkata over a length of 31.40 km with 26 Stations & 15.70 km. of underground section. The first metro line in India was completed on 24th October 1984, a stretch of about 3.4 km between Esplanade and Bhowanipur (Netaji Bhavan), thrown open for the Public. The Metro Railway of Kolkata was constructed progressively from 1972 to 2013.
The objective of the contract awarded to Yuksel Proje A.S. is to obtain General Consultancy Services cum PMC for procurement, construction, testing and commissioning of Mominpur(Ex.) - Esplanade section of Joka-BBD Bag Metro Project including all civil engineering structures, tracks, provision of infrastructure for S&T system installation, traction arrangements, air conditioning & tunnel ventilation, rolling stock, stations and architectural finishes works, operation control center, offices, station integration areas, subways, elevated, surface and underground sections over the project routes, integration with other modes of transport.
The scope of this consultancy covers Mominpur (Ex)- Esplanade section of the corridor. The corridor goes underground beyond Mominpur upto Esplanade. Four stations will come under purview of the consultancy.
It is intended to have 'Seamless travel' for metro commuters. It will involve integration of various modes of travel. Integration with East-West metro, North-South Metro/ Sub-urban/ Circular Railways will also be planned and executed.
