The main objective of the project is to double the existing rail line between Castle Rock to Kulem a part of the link between Vasco-da-Gama and Hubbali which is connecting Goa to the rest of the country.
Doubling the existing single track, broad gauge railway project. The total length of the project is 25 km and the max. design speed is 70 km/h. There are 23 tunnels, 7 bridges, 4 animal crossings, and 3 stations within the scope of the project.
The level difference between Castle Rock (580 M above MSL) and Kulem (69 M above MSL) is 511 m. This section is in a ruling gradient of 1 in 37 making it one of the steepest Broad-Gauge railway tracks in the country.
