Osmangazi Bridge with 1550 m middle span
It is the first motorway project that was tendered in Turkey with a Build-Operate-Transfer model. It’s total length is 426 km, consisting of 384 km of motorway and 42 km of connection roads.
The project connects the Marmara and Aegean regions which stand out in the sectors of industry, agriculture and tourism. The objective is to provide uninterrupted means of transport and traffic safety, and to contribute to the development of these sectors.
The scope of the motorway also involves 38 viaducts and 103 bridges, with Osmangazı Bridge being one of the bridges in the world with the largest middle span.
The 3590 m long Orhangazi tunnel which is one of the 3 tunnels under the project scope, is the longest tunnel in Turkey that is located on a motorway , and the 2.238 m long Bornova viaduct is the longest motorway viaduct of the country.
The Istanbul-Izmir Motorway uses smart transport systems, and has 680 cameras along it’s length. Traffic is managed from a main Control Centre.
